2017 starts my 64th summer at CAMP!! I have literally been in camping from the time I was 4 years old as a camper, until now. When I was 17 years old, I started working at Pierce Camp Birchmont (where I went as a camper) starting in the kitchen as a Shift Leader, General Counselor, Athletic Specialist, Assistant Group Leader, and three summers as a Division Head. I spent the next 25 years as Athletic Director and several years as also Program Director. I have been here at Meadowbrook since 1999. My first role was as the Ropes Director and after that first year, I’ve since been Camp’s Waterfront Director. As you can see Camping has been my life’s love.
I retired from Mendham HS in 2011 after 43 years of teaching and coaching. I have continued to coach Football and Golf since retiring. I have been honored by the Mendham community by being elected to the Mendies Hall of Fame for the 1975 State Championship in football and in December 2015 was inducted into the Mendham HS Hall of Fame. In November of 2016 I was inducted to the Roselle Park Hall of Fame for our 1969 undefeated State Championship. I am also a member of the New Jersey Wrestling Officials for nearly 50 years, and a winner of the Richard Mershack Award for outstanding contribution to Wrestling. I have also been a volunteer for 40 years with the Madison Fire Department, spending the last 8 years as Battalion Chief.
To me, Camp is a wonderful life experience. You have a chance to meet and make new friends, learn new and exciting activities in a warm, safe, caring environment. In my 17 years at MCDC I have seen great advances in the development of all aspects of camp life. The facility has been updated from top to bottom. The installation of new bathrooms, a new fieldhouse, new tents, newly renovated athletic fields, upgraded athletic equipment and newly planted trees throughout camp.
The best part of camp is the warm, caring, loving professionals that oversee the daily adventure of the campers & staff. I look forward to continuing my role at Meadowbrook as we continue our devotion to the personal development and happiness of our members of our Camp family.
I live in Landing with my lovely wife Loretta. We are blessed with six children (3 each) also rounding out the family is eight grandchildren - 6 Girls, 2 Boys and 2 dogs.
Hello MCDC families! My name is Russell and this is my 7th (or 8th, not sure) year at Meadowbrook. I am excited to start my first summer as the Athletic Director, a perfect complement to my profession as a physical education teacher, after spending all my previous summers as the Division Head for our 9th graders. My daughter has been attending camp since she was 3 and will be joining us again this summer. My favorite activity at camp is fishing as it is also something I enjoy outside of camp. It relaxes me. Besides fishing, I enjoy sports of all types especially when my daughter is playing.
Creativity, self-expression, fun, perseverance – those are just some of the benefits that come from Meadowbrook’s Specialty Programs. I am so thrilled to lead the cooking, art, dance, lake and outdoor living areas at Camp. I have been at Meadowbrook since 2014 and everyone knows that I live 10 for 2! I grew up in Rhode Island and made my way to New Jersey by way of Boston and New York. I have taught High School English in the Bronx for several years before moving to Livingston to raise my boys, Ben & Max, with my husband, Doug. During the year, I teach and lead Youth Groups at Congregation B’Nai Jeshurun in Short Hills where I’m lucky to have some Meadowbrook Campers as my students!
I am so excited to help your children create indelible (and edible!) memories here at Meadowbrook!
Hi, I’m Jaime Lauro and I have been at Meadowbrook since 2014! I have three beautiful children, Chase, Addison and Paige and we reside in Livingston NJ with my husband, Anthony. At MCDC, I LOVE to watch the kids at Adventure Challenge. I love watching how they push themselves to their own persona limits to try and reach their goals. I also love Swim Instruction as I am a swim instructor myself. The progress our Campers make all summer long is remarkable. Personally, I love to run 5K’s, whether an obstacle course or a fun “color run” and those are activities I can get a bit messy with so its even more fun! I am an avid New York Giants fan and football such a great sport because it really helps tie our family together. We love to watch games, cook delicious food and all hang out together. It’s also such a thrill to watch my own children play sports. Our weekends are dedicated to soccer, baseball, hockey, swimming & basketball! I’m thrilled to have my children join me at MCDC every day and I cannot wait for the start of Summer!

B) Helping my Campers have terrific summers, knowing that the fun, friends, and lessons learned will help shape who they will become! C) Laughing, every day, while working with a great group of colleagues and friends. Favorite Hobbies: Enjoying time with my family, watching our kids enjoy things that they love to do, getting outside to hike and listening to music. I am so excited to be on the MCDC Leadership Team! I am a school social worker by day, mother to two amazing kids (Avery – 6 and Tristan – 4) by night and MCDC Division Head by summer :) I have a degree in Elementary Education and my masters in Social Work. I work with a special needs population in the Randolph School District. I am also the bullying specialist in my school. I strive each day to promote a comfortable school climate that creates the best possible learning environment for our students. I love my job and leave every day feeling like I have made a difference in someone’s life. I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to my position at camp. MCDC has quickly become my second home and I’m always counting down the days to summer!
Hello Meadowbrook! My name is Paula Discenza and I am thrilled to be spending my summer as a part of the MCDC Leadership Team! During the school year I love my life as a teacher, mommy, and wife. My husband, Jeff, and I have two beautiful children Olivia 6 and Franco 3. I have a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Education with a Specialization in Literacy Development. I am currently a first grade teacher in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District where I have spent the last 12 years. I absolutely love what I do! I am so excited to spend another summer watching my campers develop friendships, reach their goals in the pool, challenge course, or on the field, and create everlasting memories.
After 18 years in Florida, my family decided a few years ago to make the pilgrimage up North! I have been the Senior Boys Division Head since 2015 and I love helping my campers develop their potential as caring, mindful and active kids. I have been an English teacher in the private school setting for over twenty years and I currently teach in a small school in Chatham. I am blessed to have two daughters, Isabella and Lena, both of whom are MCDC campers. Some fun facts about me: I have driven 85,000 miles in a car converted to run on used vegetable oil, was in the Guinness Book of World Records for playing Louie, Louie, and I thoroughly enjoy working out and writing.
Hi, I’m Nancy and I’ve been at Meadowbrook since 2010. I have worked in Special Events for three years and now as a Division Head for the past few summers. I have two Children; this will be my son's 9th year at Meadowbrook and my daughter is now on Staff. My favorite activities at Camp are Boards & Bikes, any type of Cooking and of course, our Challenge Course. My favorite things to do while not at Camp are hiking with my family, especially my dog, going to the beach and spending quality time with family and friends.
Having been at Meadowbrook since 2006, I am very excited for another summer at MCDC, along with my daughters Hannah and Avery who are back for their 7th and 3rd summers at MCDC. There is no better place for us as a family then to spend our days at MCDC. I love spending my days out in our fields watching my groups play, but the highlight of the week for me is our Friday Morning Blast Offs. It is great watching my counselors earn All Star Staff shirts and going up to compete in our Pie Guy Competition. During the summer my family and I enjoy going on hikes and catching Red Bull's soccer games.
I am so excited to be a part of the MCDC family. I live just down the road in Tewksbury and my sons, Charlie (9) and Ryan (4), are equally as excited to join in on all the fun offered here at Meadowbrook. When it comes to camp activities, I like all things food-related and if it makes a mess…BONUS! As far as sports, I am most comfortable on the courts – tennis and basketball are two of my favorites.
I earned my Master’s Degree from Rutgers University and recently returned to school earning my Supervisor’s Certificate from Rowan University. I wear a lot of different hats and pride myself on my organization to keep it all straight! As the 8th Grade Teen Travel Division Head, I am looking forward to hitting the road and making amazing memories..
